January 25, 2010 - Latrobe

January 25, 2010 was a big day. Miles was transferred to the long-term acute care (LTAC) unit at Select Specialty Hospital in Latrobe, PA, an hour-and-a-half north of Morgantown.
  • With Miles' vital signs stable, the medical decision was made that he was ready for transfer to an LTAC, since there was not much more that the ICU could do.
  • The LTAC is supposed to allow for a more aggressive and coordinated therapeutic regimens - pulmonary/respiratory therapy, physical therapy, wound therapy, etc.
  • So, on balance, this is a good move for Miles.
  • Still, the transfer was announced to Noodie the morning of the 25th and Miles was transferred by ambulance late that afternoon. The speed at which the transfer took place had everyone reeling a bit, but we've got our legs back under us.
  • The important thing is that it should be a better place for Miles to recover. It's going to be a long, long process, so every advantage is important.
Thank you again for your prayers and good wishes. They are a comfort to all.
