We received the bad news over the weekend that the vascular surgery team has concluded that Dad's left foot is not healing adequately and that additional amputation is required. So, on Tuesday Dad is scheduled to go back to the OR for a below the knee amputation.
- The benefit of this surgery is that the wound can be covered using a flap of skin from the posterior side of the leg, which should result in about a 2-week recovery.
- After a month or two he will be able to get fitted for a prosthesis.
- The doctors (and the rest of us) were hopeful that the forefoot amputation that he had 3 weeks ago would be successful. The risks of infection and of stalling his recovery otherwise are considered too great.
Please pray for Dad's safety through the surgery. Also, pray for Dad to have peace of mind with this development. He is depressed and, having already been through so much, is fighting hard to cope. I can't imagine - my heart aches for him. Please pray for Mom and Dad to both have strength.
Thank you so much for your prayers and support. All of you are a great comfort.
They don't come any tougher than Miles Runner! You've got the strength inside to conquer this all. Love and prayers for you and your family. Missy Luce

OK, this is a race of hurdles, not a sprint. Just another hurdle. Miles is a competitor and will overcome this one, and any others. With love and prayers of family and friends, this is a piece of cake.
