April 11-12, 2010 - Searching for the Bug

Sunday the 11th was a quiet day, with Dad's spirits a little improved.
  • Dad remained on the ventilator throughout the day. The idea is to let him rest in whilst his heart rate is erratic.
  • He had a slight fever which is apparently related to the infection in his chest.
  • The highlight of the day was a call from friend Mac, which cheered Dad noticeably even though he couldn't talk back.
  • All-in-all, a long quiet day.

Monday was an OK day. Dad's mood being a little better, with some smiles and interaction.
  • He spent another day on the ventilator.
  • His heart rate showed some improvement, by fluctuating in a narrower range.
  • No fever was reported during the day.
  • In the afternoon, Dad had a transesophageal echocardiogram to get a view of his heart from behind. Among other things, the object of the test is to ascertain if bacteria are present on the valve that was installed in the original December surgery.
  • We are hopeful that finding and identifying the bug will show a way toward effective treatment of Dad's heart and lungs.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support. So many have been so kind in so many ways, we can't thank you enough. Please pray for Dad's complete recovery and peace with his circumstances. Pray that these latest test will guide the doctors to the right answers to help Dad heal. Also, please pray for Mom and Dad to have strength and peace in this trying time.
