March 16, 2010 - Moved

I received a call at 6:30 AM CDT today from the ICU nurse at Presby telling me that Dad was being moved to the trauma step down unit on the 9th floor - I'll have to be more careful with my cell phone number. This is a temporary stop on the way to Select Specialty Hospital - Montefiore.
  • Mom reported that Dad has a roommate. This is a first and hasn't gone over well, according to Mom's report.
  • Apparently, hard of hearing 89 year old roommates are not all they're cracked up to be. Who'd-a-thunk it?
  • However, the good news is that Dad was his most lucid in quite a few days. He was quite talkative - not all of it complementary of his roomie - for most of the day.

  • To make it more interesting, Mom reports that the new digs are pretty cramped - especially compared to the relative splendor of the ICU.
  • Good news, I suppose, that he's no longer deemed ICU material, but sorry to leave the higher-level of care and attention that ICU offers.
  • Visits from friends Sherry and Sue were a bright spot. Lots of laughs and good cheer. Thanks to all.
  • Vital signs and other indicators remain strong.
Thank you for your diligent prayers and support. Please continue to lift Dad up for his complete recovery, as well as lifting up Mom and Dad for strength and peace through this ordeal.

  1. Maybe his roommate is grumpy because they WON'T LET HIM FART!

Miles once told me about another patient with that problem.

Make sure Miles has dibs on the TV for Saturday at 12:15 for the WVU game.

    Love and prayers,

Great blog site Woody. At this distance it all looks like progress and it's good to see. Also good to see that some of my favorite singers and comedians are keeping Miles company. Must be something in my environment when I was a kid.

The monitor story is a great one to relate and I will pass it on to my colleagues who are still working in ICU. It's a sneaky way to see what it is that gets our patients going.

Give my love to Miles and Noody & keep up the good work.

  4. Let Miles know that I just returned from El Gran Sabor, listened to some great Irish music, and tipped a delicious stout in his honor! Happy St. Patrick's Day me friend. We miss you.

  5. Miles,
Wanted to let you know that my two youngest sons (30 and 34) went wild boar hunting with my brother Tom. Anthony got two of the boar at 108 yards and 112 yards. We put some nice slabs of pork in the slow cooker with a 'special sauce' and the next day had us one fine BBQ pulled pork lunch. Some other friends were present too; Sam Adams, Jack Daniels. M. Mark, and a guy called 'Bass'. They made the lunch very special. Hope to get up that again to make another visit. Hugs from all the Fox boys and their 'spring offs'.
